The Academy team, largely made up of last season's under 18's together with one or two more experianced players, got their season off to a winning start when they travelled to Chesterfield Ladies.

Two first half goals were enough to win the game, with 16 year old player of the match Eleanor Smith, making her open age debut, running Chesterfield ragged with her strong pace.

First she scored a good individual goal and then later in the half her strong shot was diverted into the goal by the Chesterfield defender.

Half time 2-0.

Chesterfield came on strongly at the start of the second half but Town held firm and as the Chetsrefield players started to tire, Town had a few chances to increase their lead but, came away happy with a solid start to the season.

Full time 0-2.

 

Next Sunday the academy are at home to AFC Doncaster, 2pm ko.
