The Development team progressed to their second quarter final of the season with a comfortable 5-1 win away at Penistone Church.

 

Town were always in control with long periods of possession in a game where they registered over 20 shots on goal.

 

Halligan, Duce and Lodge all saw shots stopped by the Penistone keeper in the first 10 minutes before Town opened the scoring through Duce following slick play from Priestley and Broomhead down the right.

 

Division 1's top scorer Allen got her name on the scoresheet 5 minutes later when she pounced on a loose ball in the box following a mix up between the opposition defence.

 

Penistone pulled a goal back when a deep cross  to the far post evaded the entire Town back line for the left winger to strike well first time across the goal past Chadwick.

 

Chadwick was then alert moments later when Penistone broke through the middle but the stand in keeper did well to save with her feet to relieve the pressure.

 

The following counter attack resulted in a contender for goal of the season. MOM Ella McCamon turned her marker 30 yards out, steadied herself and unleashed a left foot rocket that crashed in off the bar to restore Towns 2 goal cushion.

 

Duce, Halligan, Broomhead and Allen again all went close before the break but Penistone held on until half time.

Town took a further lead shortly after the break. McCamon was brought down clumsily in the box resulting in a spot kick which Halligan confidently tucked away in the bottom right hand corner.

 

Town made it 5 when Walker released Broomhead down the right wing in behind the defence for the striker to fire hard into the top corner.

 

Town could have had more but the opposition keeper saved everything that came her way in the final 20 minutes.

 

Next week see's the Devs take on Rotherham Utd away from home in the Quarter Final.
