The terriers were hoping to bounce back from a disappointing end to 2019 and start 2020 in a positive manner.

 

Although after a 35 minute delay to kick off the terriers were slow coming out of the blocks, after a sluggish start Town found themselves 1 down from a corner as Blackburn defender Megan Dykes powered a header past the stranded Laura Carter in the Town goal.

 

After a lacklustre first half performance town responded in a spirited manner. After testing the Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Libby Finn and Tara Duce flicking narrowly wide the  Terriers found their break through. After some good link up play Cassidy Clift was played through on goal and expertly fired the terriers back into the tie by smashing the ball past Libby Finn at the near post.

 

The buoyant terriers continued their resurgence and In the 87th minute Emma Samways capitalised on a Blackburn mistake to score what ought to have been the winner.

Although in the 90th minute a town mix up at the back allowed Blackburn to equalise in the dying embers of the game, taking the cup tie into penalties.

 

After some good penalties Town keeper Laura Carter became a town hero saving 2 penalties in the shoot out ensuring town win 6-7 on penalties.

 

Next Sunday the Development team hope to carry on their cup run when they travel to Durham reserves in the league cup quarter final tie, 2pm ko
