MATCH REPORTS SEASON 2019/20

U16's League Cup
16th November 2019
Huddersfield Town 3-1 Worksop

Town took on a strong Worksop side and came from behind to take the spoils and book a place in the quarter-finals.

The visitors, last year’s cup winners, troubled the Town defence throughout the first half and took a deserved lead on thirty minutes, substitute keeper Alex Mckie narrowly failing to stop a shot at the near post.

Somehow, and against the run of play, Town levelled before half time as Lois Mattock played in striker Bella Kington to slot the ball in to the bottom corner.

A second half improvement saw Town creating more opportunities but Worksop always carried a threat. Town’s defence stood firm with player of the match Erin Kay staying calm and confident when under pressure.

After Mattock was brought down in the box, Laura Hulme confidently struck home the penalty to put Town in front on 48 minutes.

The game was finally clinched in the 72nd minute with a mix up in the visitor’s defence lead to an own goal.

In a stern test of Town’s under 16s the squad dug deep to pull off an important win.
