     SSE Women's FA Cup - 2nd Round
3rd December 2017
Huddersfield Town 7-0 West Bromwich Albion

Huddersfield Town Ladies beat West Bromwich Albion Ladies 7-0 at the Stafflex arena Storthes Hall to progress through to the third round of the SSE Women's FA Cup.

The fixture which kicked off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon didn't end until after 5pm, the reason was due to a two hour delay as an ambulance had to be called, due to a West Brom player being injured just three minutes into the game.

The game was never going to be called off, and after two hours the game got back underway as the West Brom player was taken to hospital.

It was Sarah Danby who became the hero on the day as she scored a hat-trick to send Town through to the next round.

It was Kate Mallin who had the first chance for Town on the seventh minute, however her shot went wildly over the bar. The home side nearly took the lead again on the 18th minute when Katie Nutter's shot was expertly saved by the visiting keeper.

Town missed a big opportunity on the 26th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Emily Heckler was brought down in the box. Mallin stepped up to take it, but she saw her 12 yard spot kick saved.

The first goal came eight minutes later when Heckler pounced onto a poor back pass from a West Brom defender, the striker then rounded the keeper and passed the ball into the net, to give Town the lead.

Town grabbed their second goal right on the half time whistle as Brittany Sanderson powered a header past the Albion keeper.

Town scored their third from the penalty spot, Sarah Danby was fouled in the box, but this time Danby herself stepped up and made no mistake as she curled the ball into the bottom left corner.

Town were putting in a dominant display and the visitors just couldn't handle them, Katie Nutter nearly grabbed Town's fourth as she smacked the ball against the Albion post.

Town's fourth did come though, and in the 67th minute Mallin crossed the ball to Carla Baxby, who crashed the ball against the bar and whilst everyone thought it was a goal, Lucy Sowerby made sure by slotting the ball home.

Town were now on a roll and their fifth goal followed just two minutes later when Danby got her second. She tapped the ball past the Albion keeper from Mallin's low cross from the right hand side.

Danby then got her third goal and Town's sixth of the game and became the hat-trick hero on the 79th minute. After some sloppy play from the Albion back line, a poor back pass once again was pounced upon, and Danby was ruthless in front of goal as she powered the ball past the visiting keeper.

Town's seventh and last goal game three minutes before full time, Heckler latched on to a deep cross and placed the ball into the net with expert precision.

Town secured their passage to the third round of the FA Cup with the win and manager Ash Vickers was pleased to get the victory.

Vickers said on the performance: "I thought it was a positive performance, and I asked the girls to be patient today which I thought they were. Once we got the first goal, I knew we would go onto get more.

"It wasn't that difficult to re-focus after the delay in the game, the ref told us that the match would go ahead, so we just needed to relax and then warm up again.

"Sarah was really great today, she deserved her goals, and finished them really well too which will give her some confidence, I was pleased for all the girls as I thought they played well.

"We are not really bothered who we get in the next round, a home tie would be great but we'll play anyone, it's a great competition to be involved in and we'd like to go further in it if we can."

Meanwhile Sarah Danby was delighted to get a hat-trick on the day, she said: "There was quite a bit of luck to score it, but I thought we played well, created the spaces and punished them when we had the chances we got.

"The FA Cup can be a difficult competition to get through, however we are a third tier club and it's great to progress through the rounds and test ourselves against teams higher up the pyramid."

Player of the match was Sarah Danby, sponsored by HTSA.

In the third round the Ladies have been drawn at home to FAWPL Southern Division side Lewes Ladies (Brighton). The match is to be played on Sunday 7th January 2018.

Mascots for the day were Ackworth Juniors and also 4 year old Ella Baldwin, who are pictured
