Newcastle Utd Reserves 2 - 0 Huddersfield Town Development
Newcastle United ended the Developments team 100% away record despite a spirited performance with only 11 players.
A humid afternoon proved a step to far for Town as Newcastle took full advantage, using 5 substitutes following their late 1st team postponment with fresh legs being the decider between the two.
Town controlled the game for long periods with debutants Molly Ellis and Eleanor Smith impressing down the flanks.
Ellis nealy had a dream start but narrowly missed out on a fantasic Broomhead crpss then dragged the ball just wide following great build up play from Hartley and Halligan.
Izzy Pare had to be on guard when a rare Newcastle counter attack saw the keeper rush 10 yards outside her box to brilliantly take man and ball to evade the danger.
Hartleys corners were a threat all day with Allen and Priestley both having efforts cleared off the line from the cross.
HT 0-0
It was much the same in the second half for Town. Great wing play from Broomhead saw her cross fall to Ellis who fired goalwards but her effort was neatley deflected over the bar from a United defender despite the keeper being beaten.
The breakthrough came controversially on 70 minutes as Allen was challenged hard in the back on the half way line with the ref waving play on. A decent cross into the box appeared to be met by the arm of the United striker but play again was waved on and the resulting lay off was beautifully volleyed home into the top corner.
Newcastle had now used all their substitutions and the fresh legs was evident although the 11 Terriers stood strong and pushed for the equaliser.
Town knew it wasn't to be when they hit the inside of the post 12 minutes from the end following another Hartley corner but instead found themselves 2 down shortley after when a quick switch fell kindly to the winger who fired hard past Pare.
Another great performance by the girls who play at home to Sheffield United in a weeks time.
