Nottingham Forest 2 - 2 Huddersfield Town
Town ladies travelled down to Nottingham in the hope of maintaining their good league form but, in the end came away frustrated after only gaining a single point.
On a very heavy pitch, pretty football was never going to be easy but Town started in determined fashion and apart from the odd Forest break which were dealt with well by Town's defence, Town were comfortable in possession and managed one of two attacks in the opening minutes.
In the 16th minute Kate Mallin had Town's first decent chance with a direct free kick but that was blocked before it could reach the goal.
A few minutes later and Sarah Danby shot wide of the target before Lucy Sowerby then shot over the Forest bar.
Kerry Hope, making her full debut then had a strong shot defelcted wide of the goal.
Up to that point the referee had frustrated both teams with his lack of decision making and allowing a number of tasty challenges to go unpunished.
He became decisive in the 42nd minute when following a goalmouth scramble, he judged that Katie Nutter had got the ball over the Forest line. Forest were very unhappy by the decision but, it meant that Town went in 1-0 up at half time which, given their first half possession was fair enough.
Town started the second half in similar style but, 8 minutes in and once again the referee became the centre of attention when, Millie Turner was adjudged to have fouled the Forest striker while running away from goal. Town's protests were equally as loud as those of Forest in the first half and, it did seem that the referee was just evening things up!
Forest struck the equaliser from the spot.
Five minutes latyer however, and Town were ahead once again. A corner came in from the right and following another melee, Brittany Sanderson turned the ball home from close range.
Town continued to dominate possession but couldn't find the final ball.
In the 73rd minute Forest got their equaliser. They broke down the centre of the pitch and Laura Carter managed to parry a shot, only for a Forest striker to follow up and slot the ball home, 2-2.
Just 3 minutes later and Danby managed to round the Forest keeper who had rushed from her area, Danby struck a strong shot towards goal but somehow, a Forest defender managed to stretch her leg out to deflect Danby's effort over the bar.
Charley Evans fired over in the last few minutes but, try as they might, Town couldn't final the winner.
