MATCH REPORTS SEASON 2019/20

U10's League Cup
14th December 2019
Scawthorpe Scorpions 1-22 Huddersfield Town
U10s - 2019-20

Huddersfield Town were away to Scawthorpe Scorpions for their final group game in the U10’s SHGCL Cup. Even though the sun had come out when the game started, the pitch conditions weren’t ideal with the overnight rain leaving it soggy and slow to play on.

HTWFC kicked off and immediately took control with Esmay Clarke getting the U10’s on the score sheet within the 1st minute. 0-1

Pitch conditions didn’t seem to hold Town back as they were

getting most of the ball and controlling the game. Holly Wilkinson was on the attack in the 9th minute, going for goal, only to be stopped when Scawthorpe gave away a foul just outside their box. Alysia Singh stepped up to take the free kick and lifted it over the defence guiding it into the top left corner. 0-2

Scawthorpe struggled to get going as Town controlled the game allowing Singh through on goal again, although her first attempt was saved, the ball came back to Singh allowing her to shoot again, albeit from a tight angle but finding the back of the net. 0-3

Town’s dominance then allowed P.O.M. Imogen Ward to get three in succession, scoring on the 10th, 12th and 13th minute. 0-6

Town continued to dominate but Scawthorpe kept the girls at bay until the 23rd minute when Izzy Cleverly provided a pass across their goal mouth to Singh who found the net from another tight angle. 0-7

With only a few seconds remaining in the half, Ellie Adams picked out a pass to Ward, who in turn got the ball into the box where Clarke neatly back heeled it into the net. 0-8.

Half time 0-8

Town remained confident in the 2nd half with the girls passing freely allowing Cleverly, on the left, to find Wilkinson in the box, who tapped home the ninth. on the 20th minute mark. 0-9

Within seconds of the re-take, Town re-gained control and replicated the previous move with Cleverly finding Wilkinson again to tap in another. 0-10

30th minute and Cleverly was on the receiving end of a pass and getting herself on the score sheet. 0-11

33rd minute and Scawthorpe took too long finding a pass, Wilkinson saw the opportunity to pounce on the loose ball and ran at their goal going on to find the back of the net. 0-12

35th minute, and Town were back in the opposition’s box where Maddie Hamilton took the opportunity to score. 0-14

37th minute, Ruby Hackney powers her way through the opposition and lays off a neat pass to Ward who tucked it into the back of the net. 0-15

38th minute, Adam’s found herself getting in to a good position in front of goal where she took the opportunity to get a great strike on the ball which found the back of the net. 0-16

39th minute and Town had a momentary lapse of concentration letting Scawthorpe through on Town’s goal to take full advantage and get one past them. 1-16

The slight set back didn’t stop Town, who continued from where they left off with Hamilton finding Ward, in the 41st minute, and going on to score. 1-17

43rd minute and Singh weaved through their midfield and defence, creating her own opportunity to power a shot into the net. 1-18

From the re-take Scawthorpe saw and took another opportunity on our goal. Even though they got to shoot, Tove Clayton stood her ground in goal and didn’t let anything past.

Town didn’t slow down their momentum and, from a throw in, Hackney picked out Singh, who turned and took the ball up field where she spotted Clarke in the box. Clarke received the pass to strike it home. 1-19

With just a few minutes to go, Hackney found herself getting through the opposition and laying on a pass to Cleverly who went on to tap it home. 1-20

Scawthorpe seemed to find their feet and once again they were through Towns defence but Clayton wouldn’t let their score line improve with another good save.

With the final whistle only a few minutes off, Town went on the final attack with Ward slotting home two final goals.

Final score: 1-22
