The Under 12's defeated Wickersley for the first time with an outstanding team performance against an impressive opposition.

This was a great advert for the junior game with 2 sides playing the game in the right way.

​

In a tightly fought first 15 minutes there was nothing to split the sides but Town went the closest moments later. Ella Rejiba's driving run saw her 15 yard effort crash back off the post. The ball fell to the feet of Molly Firth who also sent her shot flying back off the post.

​

Town saw out 10 minutes of pressure from the opposition as the defence stayed strong throughout.

There was little to pick again between the sides in a more open 2nd half although Towns defending was the best the younsters have produced in their short time together.

​

The breakthrough came 15 minutes into the second half when Town broke from an opposition corner. Firths darting run down the right saw her thread an inch perfect pass through to Burgess who won the race against both the centre half and  the oncoming keeper to slot the ball out from 10 yards.

​

Wickersley picked up the pace and were level 7 minutes later. A mazey run from the left wing saw a low cross deflect off a Town defender to wrong foot Grace Redfern in the Town goal.

​

In the dying seconds Town received a corner which Rejiba whipped in. The ball was half cleared and although Burgess' first attempt was blocked, a quick drop of the shoulder took the ball to her left side and brilliantly fire across goal into the bottom corner of the net.

​

The full time whistle went seconds later and Town took the 3 points.

​

A top of the table clash in on the cards next week as Town host the so far unbeaten Sheffield Wednesday.
