Towns under 13s secured their place in the cup for the first time after seeing off Sheffield United in the preliminary round.

 

Town are the holders of the Shield in the last 2 years but will now participate with the top teams as they look to win silverwear for the third year running.

 

On a bright sunny day in Sheffield, Town went straight at their opponents and could have been 1 up after just 20 seconds. Ramsden released Burgess on the wing who picked out Gindra only for her shot to be deflected away for the first of many corners for the away side.

 

Burgess spurned 3 one on ones, Ramsden fired over from a free kick and Gindra missed 2 efforts before the striker drilled home a low finish on 15 minutes to give Town the lead.

 

Gindra quickly got her second after a miss kick by the United keeper fell to her 20 yards out to tee up a volley that rocketed into the top corner right on half time.

 

HT: 0-2

 

It was much the same for Town in the second half. Firth and Taylor-Williams were lively after their introduction but it was Gindra who completed her hat trick 5 minutes into the second half to give Town a comfortable lead.

 

Hannah Burgess tried and tried to get on the score sheet but the tall figure in goals for United kept Town firmly at bay.

 

Grace Redfern earned a pretty easy clean sheet in nets but will face a bigger task next week when Town host SAFG at the Stafflex.
