Huddersfield Town u13's 3 - SAFG u13's 2
Towns under 13s beat SAFG on Saturday in a highly entertaining encounter at the Stafflex Arena.
Both teams played exceptionally well in a top quality 70 minutes of football, with the sides cancelling each other out for most of the game. Town were happy to sit back and watch the opposition play the ball around, standing strong at the back when the ball came into their half.
Town took the lead following tremendous build up play from midfield as Burgess' inch perfect through ball set up Gindra to beat the keeper 1 on 1 with a slotted finish into the corner.
SAFG rarely threatened the Town goal but Redfern made two long range efforts from distance before her goal kick to Firth started the move for Towns second. Firth played the ball inside to Taylor-Williams who found Burgess for an identical through ball to be put through to Gindra, who again made no mistake with the finish.
HT: 2-0
SAFG started the stronger of the sides in the second half although Town were still way above par.
The opposition clawed one back following a goal line scramble which saw the ball fall nicely to the striker to score from close range.
However Town responded immediatley when good work from substitute Ramsden found Firth on the wing. The winger crossed the ball fantastically with her left foot for Burgess to meet on the volley on the edge of the box sending a screamer low and hard into the far corner of the net.
It was end to end stuff as both defences stayed strong but the opposition reduced the deficit after a corner wasnt fully cleared and again from close range the striker prodded home.
SAFG attacked until the end and a fine save from Redfern kept Towns hopes alive before Maddie Hall got her barings all wrong at the far post to head wide from 3 yards out.
Town held on and go 7 points off top spot with 3 games in hand.
