17th February 2018
Rovers Foundation u14's 0 - 3 Huddersfield Town u14's
The under 14s came out winners against a determined Rovers team. The victory was based on a solid defensive display. Goalkeeper Kiera Millward was protected throughout by the back three of Gaby Pearson, Leah Pearman and Jada Simon. It took 15 minutes for the under 14s to come to terms with the narrow pitch. Chances were made but the finishing was not up to the normal standard. Finally on the 28th minute Tamara Wilcock collected a pass from Alex McKie and fired home. This was the impetus that was required and after having one shot just over the bar Chloe Latham created space and her powerful shot was too strong for the goalkeeper making the score 2 - 0. A minute later it was 3 - 0. Laura Hulme won the ball and played it to Tamara. She skilfully beat two players to centre for Alex to guide the ball home. The score remained 3 - 0 at half time.
In the second half, the under 14s continued to dominate the game but failed to increase their lead. Shots from Lucy Grice and Tamara flew just wide. Laura hit the post and Alex had a shot well saved by the goalkeeper.
Player of the match was Chloe Latham for her competitive display in midfield culminating in an excellent goal.
This was a good team performance and at times the football played was of the highest order. The under 14s are now six points clear at the top of Division 1 with three league games remaining.
