Huddersfield Town u14's 3-1 AFC Pogmoor u14's
Last Tuesday evening the under 14's were crowned league champions without even kicking a ball as Pogmoor, the last team capable of catching them lost against fourth placed Sheffield Wednesday and therefore, today's game was just to see how many points they'd eventually accumulate.
Pogmoor graciously formed a guard of honour for the under 14's prior to kick off which was fantastic gesture on their part.
The first half was an uninspiring affair with Town huffing and puffing in trying to break down a stubborn Pogmoor defence. Pogmoor were well marshalled at the back and Town's only real opportunity came 3 minutes before half time when a Laura Hulme cross was met by the head of Mia Harris, only for her attacking team mate Isobella Kington to block the balls path towards goal.
Half time 0-0
Town started the second half with much more urgency and Tamara Wilcock shot over the Pogmoor bar 5 minutes in.
Chances then came at regular intervals for both sides as the game opened up.
Keira Millward in Town's goal pulled off a great save before, just a minute later, Town took the lead through Isobella Kington who ran onto a good through ball and finished well. Wilcock then played in Hulme who shot from distance over the keeper and into the top corner to double Town's lead,
2-0.
The Pogmoor keeper then pulled off a good save to deflect a shot from Town onto her post and then Kington shot wide of the target.
At the other end there was also some action and an excellent shot found the top corner of Town's net to bring the score back to 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining.
The ever lively Kington then had another shot saved before with her next effort, managing to bamboozle the Pogmoor defence before poking to ball home through the keeper's legs.
Pogmoor then had another chance to decrease the deficit but, a well timed challenge from Leah Pearman saved the day.
Further chances fell to Wilcock and Mia Harris but Town couldn't extend their lead and as the final whistle blew, Town were worthy winners against a determined and skilful Pogmoor side.
