Sheffield Utd Community White 1 - Huddersfield Town u15's 5

The under 15's progressed to the last 8 of the SHGCL league cup with, in the end, a convincing win over Sheffield Utd White.

Town started brightly and although the pitch was a little on the heavy side, they tried to play their usual passing game, using their wide players to cause Sheffield problems.

The opening goal of the game came in the 12th minute when, following good pressing,  the ball broke to Alex McKie on the left and she moved into the Utd area to finish well across their keeper, 0-1.

Clear chances for either side were limited but the next opportunity came for Town on the half hour mark when Lois Mattock fired over the United crossbar.

A half time approached and slightly against the run of play, Town lost the ball on the edge of their area and United stole in to equalise with a strong shot, 1-1.  This boosted their confidence and they shot wide of the target in the final minute of the half.

Half time 1-1.

In the opening minute of the second half Isobella Kington shot just wide of the United goal and, a few minutes later Maddy Rodd also shot wide when given half an opening.

Town were playing the better of the two teams now and their attacks were coming in waves.

It was Kington who broke the deadlock in the 51st minute to put Town ahead and then Laura Hulme followed her 3 minutes later to stretch Town's lead to 1-3.

As the half progressed, United started to press Town and with 15 minutes of the game remaining Keira Millward in Town's goal pulled off a great save to deny the United striker. At the other end, Kington scored her second of the game to make it 1-4.

With 8 minutes left a United striker broke into the box and Millward was adjudged to have fouled her. The referee immediately blew for a penalty, before United found the net. The penalty rattled against Town's post and fell into Millward's grateful arms.

Millward wasn't finished and made another great save, parrying a shot onto her post.

The game was wrapped up with 4 minutes remaining when player of the match Kington completed her hat trick to make the final score 1-5.

A great game played in good spirit by both teams and Town working well in all departments of the pitch, from front to back.
