Sheffield Wednesday 2 - Huddersfield Town u15's 1
The under 15s travelled to Sheffield Wednesday under 15s for this top of the table clash. The game started with Wednesday in the ascendency but they were unable to create any chances against the determined Town defence. After twenty minutes Town under 15s came more into the game but they too were unable to forge the Wednesday defence. With half time approaching and a half time score of 0 -0 looking likely, Wednesday were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area which was dispatched into the roof of the net giving keeper Keira Millward no chance.
The second half continued in the same way with Wednesday showing the greater threat but the under 15s defence of Ruby Mills, Gaby Pearson, Jada Simon and Millie Rumney holding their own. After twenty minutes of the second half Wednesday were again awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Again the ball was sent into the net with an accurate shot.
To their credit Town never gave in and put more pressure on the Wednesday defence. They were rewarded with ten minutes remaining when Laura Hulme's hooked shot flew into the net. Try as they might Town could not come up with an equaliser and the game finished 2 - 1 to Wednesday. This puts Wednesday five points ahead of the under 15s, who have one game in hand.
Lois Mattock was player of the match for her tenacity and hard work in midfield. She was closely followed by Millie Rumney in defence where she showed her battling qualities.
