Barnsley u16's 0 - 3 Huddersfield Town u16's
Huddersfield Town Ladies U16's made it hard work to get their 13th win out of 13 on a very boggy Barnsley pitch. The majority of the battles occurred in the midfield where an active Town defence needed to push forward to halt any Barnsley surges.
Town had a few chances early on when Molly Ellis's run down the right wing and subsequent cut inwards had the final shot go over the cross bar. Ten minutes later and Alicia Marriott tried the same move and it took an excellent save from the Barnsley keeper to stop the goal.
Town and Barnsley spent the next twenty minutes not really making impact on each other, that was until Alicia and Harriott Waller combined on the right wing to move free on goal, however the keeper was again quick off of the mark to save the shot. Just before half time Macy Ellis came close when she found herself unmarked in the box and once more a double save from the Barnsley keeper stopped Town going in front.
Half time 0 - 0
Into the second half and Town came out with a lot more energy and started testing the Barnsley defence. Five minutes in and Town went 1 - 0 up when Jess Barrow ran straight through the middle of the park to belt the perfect shot past the keeper. Town were now getting to grips with the game and another great save from the Barnsley keeper prevented Alicia's shot after a great through ball from Zoe Laughton.
Barnsley were still pushing hard and it required some great interception work from Abi Crabtree and Francs Keddie to stop them getting through. chances were coming thick and fast from Town but none were hitting the net. It wasn't until the 66th minute that Town's second came when again Jess received a fantastic cross from Macy to slide the ball past the keeper. Barnsley almost pulled one back two minutes later when they broke through the Town defence, however Emily Brookes was quick off of the line to sweep the ball up.
On 70 minutes Town were under attack and required Abi to stretch to halt the ball. What came next was an exquisite pass from Abi straight through the midfield onto an attacking Jess who didn't waste the opportunity to fire past the keeper to complete her hat trick...3 - 0 Town.
For the remainder of the game Town were in complete control and were able to see out the remaining minutes without any issues.
Final score 3 - 0. Town showed their Champions credentials in what could have been a banana skin for the team. Star player was Abi Crabtree for some great defensive work.
