Huddersfield Town u16's 7 - 0 Wisewood Girls u16's
Town attacked Wisewood right from the start and were rewarded straight away when Molly Ellis turned the defence inside out and found the net within minutes of the kick off. Huddersfield however failed to capitalise on this positive start and spent the next few minutes on the back foot as Wisewood grew in confidence . Jemima Wood and Abigail Crabtree were kept far too busy in defence and Emily Brookes was called upon to make a couple of good saves.
The Huddersfield midfield got the message and after about 20 minutes they began to stamp their authority on the game. Brodie Haigh was now sending pinpoint passes all over the pitch and Gwen Hughes was getting in some crunching tackles to let everyone know she was there. Town were back in control and the Wisewood left back just couldn’t cope with Macy Ellis’s speed down the wing as the Huddersfield forward helped herself to 2 goals in quick succession.
The rest of the first Half saw a well organised forward line piling pressure onto the Wisewood defence. Zoe Laughton and Harriet Waller were a constant thorn in their side running persistently at the back four and Molly, Macy and Jess Barrow all worried the keeper with their efforts.
The second half began in a similar vein. The Wisewood forwards were getting very little joy out of Nadya Longstaff and Frances Keddie and with such a strong back four Town were able to attack in numbers.
In midfield Gwen, Brodie, Jess and Emily Uttley were dominating proceedings and it was just a matter of time before all the pressure began to tell. The dam finally burst when Gwen rose like a salmon at the back post to head home a superbly floated corner from Macy. Minutes later another corner was met with a firm header from Jess who was unlucky to see it saved.
Next it was Brodie to have a pop at goal, the Wisewood keeper pulled off a great save but Brodie was there to slot home the rebound.
Harriet Waller got the goal her work rate deserved when she ran into the box and rolled a shot into the corner and Courtney Livsey finished off the scoring with a thunderbolt into the bottom corner.
Overall a tremendous team performance with Jemima Wood getting player of the match for her excellent marshalling of the defence.
