This fixture had to be reversed to a 3G pitch courtesy of Sheffield Wednesday but, the conditions still weren't perfect!

Huddersfield Town ladies U16’s came through a very challenging fixture to beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-5 and progress through to the cup final against Dronfield. The scoreline didn’t reflect how bad the weather was and the difficulty the players faced. Harriet Waller almost got the girls going on 4m when Zoe Laughton ran the left-wing and crossed to Francis Keddie who passed the ball onto Harriet whose quick feet fired past the keeper. Gwen Hughes then attempted a long range shot on five minutes but again the ball failed to reach the net. Gwen was clearly keen for a goal and on 8m she ran straight through the Wed midfield and fired straight at the keeper. Wed turned up the pressure and were not letting Town have their own way. A three pronged attack was halted by Olivia Burgins quick thinking when she intercepted a great through ball. Wed was having some good possession on the left-wing and almost scored when the ball was cut in and fired at goal however Emily Brookes was quick to react to get hold of the ball. It took until the 23m before Town was able to score when Harriet weaved her way round the defenders to fire the ball past the keeper. Wed regrouped and attempted to force their way past the Town defence but the back line was solid and held them off. Wed again had another run on goal but Olivia reacted well and halted the flow of play. Town was soaking up some considerable pressure and the defence was doing great job however on 25m Town conceded a free-kick Just outside the box, despite a well placed shot Emily was able to save it. A minute later and Town made it 0-2 when Harriet again ran into the box and chipped the keeper. The remainder of the half both teams were cancelling each other out as the weather was starting to worsen.

Half-time... 0-2 Town

Second half and Town were clearly up for a challenge and started applying pressure on the Wed defence. Brodie Haigh’s shot on 41m was tipped around the post by the keeper. Wed fought back immediately and was rewarded with a goal that hit the post and found its way into the net. Town needed to respond quickly and did so on 47m when a well received header from a corner was headed in by Jess Barrow..1-3 Town. Town dominated for the next ten minutes however against the run of play Wed earned themselves a penalty when Town were deemed to of handled the ball in the box and converted to make it 2-3. Jess got her second two minutes later when she intercepted a goal-kick and sent it straight back past the keeper...2-4 Town. On 67m Wed was lucky when an offside shot at goal made it past Emily...3-4 Town. Huddersfield were in full control and on 70m Alicia Marriott got goal no5 when her run into the box and shot was deflected straight past the keeper.

Final score 3-5 Town. Star player was Harriet Waller for running rings around the Wednesday defence.
