Huddersfield Town 2-0 Wakefield Trinity Ladies
Town’s under 16s strengthened their grip at the top of Division 1 with a fine 2-0 victory over third-placed Wakefield Trinity.
In a tight, hard-fought first half contest Town created the clearer opportunities but were unable to break the deadlock, the visitor’s keeper making some fine saves. At the other end, resolute defending kept out a lively Wakefield attack.
The deadlock was broken on the hour when Lois Mattock played in Laura Hulme, who rode a couple of tackles before firing a crisp shot into the bottom left-hand corner from twelve yards.
In an highly entertaining last twenty minutes, the visitors pressed for an equaliser but player-of-the-match Gaby Pearson lead a strong defence by example, making a last-ditch tackle to prevent a certain goal.
As Town broke quickly to go close on several occasions, victory was assured on 75 minutes when Maddy Rodd put the excellent Bella Kington through on goal, who calmly slotted the second past the advancing keeper.
This was a very accomplished Town performance and every player in the squad played their part in this important victory.
