MATCH REPORTS SEASON 2019/20

U16's League Cup
11th January 2020
Huddersfield Town 5-2 Barnsley White

In cup action this week, Town suffered an early setback when a cross from the right drifted beyond the reach of keeper Keira Millward put the visitors ahead.

Town hit back on 11 minutes when Isobella Kington stroked the ball beyond the advancing keeper following an excellent through ball by the in-form Amy Almond.

Kington was played in by Laura Hulme on 25 minutes to put Town in front.  Kington then returned the favour to set up Hulme’s decisive finish four minutes later.

Town dominated the second period but Barnsley posed a threat on the break.  After two important saves by Millward thwarted the visitors, they eventually capitalised after Town failed to clear a corner to make it 3-2.

To Town’s credit, they set about regaining the initiative with some superb football.  The hosts were rewarded with Hulme and Kington combining again to put the game beyond the visitors. On 73 minutes Hulme scored the fourth after a one-two with Kington.  A minute later Kington received a pass on the edge of the box to slot her third and Town’s fifth to complete the scoring.

In a game where Gaby Pearson, Jada Simon, Millie Rumney, Mia Harris and Lucy Grice also caught the eye, the Player of the Match went to Isobella Kington whose movement, distribution and finishing lead Town’s victory charge.

Full-time: 5-2
